Artist Statement
My intention and goal is to express my inner glimpses of "light, colour and beauty" to my work. I continually look for the essence of the work...and the essence of who I am...the inner consciousness and the inner sounds, feelings, thoughts, imagination, and dreams that become part of the painting process. Many times I will begin with an idea and it may morph into another idea and during the process the piece takes it's own identity. Although I like to work spontaneously; there are decisions to make when painting and then knowing when to stop. Sometimes that happens very naturally as part of the process and other times it's frustrating how it eludes me. I enjoy the discovery and surprise each time I paint...and the fulfillment when the piece comes together. It's not always joy and happiness, there's struggle and frustration but they serve me to look more deeply. I like working with acrylics on canvas, as there's diversity in acrylics that suit my way of painting. My work leans more towards abstraction with some reference to personal symbolism. Often I will use certain shapes that continue to show up in my work. I also have the lofty goal that perhaps the viewer will have a personal experience with my piece. I hope that my art represents the best of what I am and that you enjoy a moment of standing timeless with me and can see why I paint. The State of Art Show and Sale is a sampling of work from a group of artists who live and work in Victoria. Thank you for viewing my art. |
