Biography
Laura Skagfeld-Waters - photographer, printmaker, sculptor and graphic artist. My interests pair concerns of ecology and life cycle with a connection to the earth. Relying on spontaneity, intuition and elements of surprise and discovery, I derive images from everyday life, combining elements of the domestic, found objects and organic forms to produce my work.
A graduate of Camosun College Visual Arts Program (1996), I also studied drawing at the Victoria College of Art and Design and at the University of Victoria. Before attending formal studies, I worked primarily as a sculptor for over a decade, creating a series of intimately scaled abstract and figurative soapstone carvings. I worked as the Studio Programs Coordinator at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria from 1996 - 2004; and currently teach art to children through the Home Learners Link of School District 61.
