The Victoria Arts Connection is Victoria’s only multidisciplinary arts centre. Our mission is to act as a resource centre for individual artists and art groups, by supporting the production, creation and education of all arts in Victoria.
Victoria Arts Connection is home to the Annual Victoria Children’s Gala, A Passport to the Arts. Last year’s event was the 1st Gala of its type to grace the Victoria public; it was a smashing success with over 500 guests in attendance. It featured the local talent of many of Victoria’s top children’s performers and art organizations. This year’s event promises to surpass the success of last years, with the addition of organizations such as Kaleidoscope Theatre and Mosiac the City.
What is unique about the Victoria Children’s Gala is that it celebrates and represents all of the Arts, including art, theatre, music and dance. As guests enter the Gala, they receive a passport to help them navigate through the space. Passport stations include the Victoria Arts Connection’s Gallery exhibit "Artists and their Children," a main stage featuring performances by many of Victoria’s leading children’s performers and a story-telling station presented by the Vancouver Island story-tellers Guild. Other stations for children to visit include an art-making station presented by Mosaic in the City, a live video installation brought to us by MediaNet who will be filming children’s wishes for other children of the world, and a workshop station where young folks can participate in a variety of movement and theatre classes offered throughout the day. Other activities include face-painting, cookie decorating and more. As guests travel throughout the space, they are also treated to a variety of traveling performers including stilt-walkers, clowns, and magician, Lucas Kavanagh.
Returning from last year’s event are: the Victoria Arts Connection’s Youth Company, the Symphony Orchestra Petting Zoo, the Vancouver Island Story Tellers Guild, MediaNet, plus many of the fabulous face painters, stilt walkers, magicians and clowns that traveled throughout the space on the day of the gala.
We will once again feature the Opening of the 2nd Annual Artists & Their Children’s gallery exhibit which highlights the work of Victoria Artists along side that of their children’s. This exhibit will remain up all the way into the New Year.
This one of a kind event celebrating children and the Arts promises to be a smashing success!
