FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Victoria Arts Connection is pleased to present the 3rd Annual Passport to the Arts Youth Festival, a highly accessible and unique festival that celebrates diversity in the Arts for youth. It offers youth from toddlers to late teens the opportunity to showcase their work, perform, experience hands on art stations where they can create their own art, and participate as audience members to see quality live main stage performances. This festival celebrates and showcases all the major arts disciplines including crafts, dance, drama, literature, visual arts, music, and media arts.

This year's festival program has expanded to include an exciting evening of film and media arts on Friday November 30th featuring premiers of films by youth from The Gulf Islands Film and Television School (GIFTS http://giftsfilms.com) as well as Media Net's Youth Film Makers group.

On Saturday, December 1st guests receive a passport with a map to help them navigate through the stations, where they are greeted by Passport Officials who stamp their passports. Stations include workshops, the VAC gallery, main stage and interactive media stations. Workshops include movement classes, creative dance for the young folks as well as improvisation and hip-hop, theatre classes, theatre improvisation, and puppetry. Specialists in their field lead all workshops.

Interactive media and education stations include Vancouver Island Storytellers Guild www.victoriastorytellers.org, The Victoria Symphony Orchestra Petting Zoo www.victoriasymphony.ca, Media Net www.media-net.bc.ca interactive video station (the video is published on the VAC and Media Net web sites), hands-on visual art station and a 2 month gallery exhibition of work by children and youth in the CRD area. Mosaic the City's www.mosaicthecity.com collaborative peace tile project as well as a station featuring the Stephen Lewis Foundation are dedicated to raising awareness around global peace issues and AIDS in Africa. In addition VAC sponsors Amna a child in Sudan through Foster Parents Plan. Each year our guests share in the creation of a tapestry with well wishes and images created on canvas that is sent to Amna as well as a cash donation for her family.

Main stage includes performances by Kaleidoscope Theatre www.kaleidoscope.bc.ca including an excerpt from Aladdin Jr. dance performances by the Victoria Dance Connection Youth Company www.victoriadanceconnection.com , Magicians Christopher Menu and Paul Kilshaw, actor Roderick Glanville, Tickles the clown, and a number of vocal guests. Roving entertainment includes tall puppets, clowns, face painters, stilt walkers and more.

The two month long art exhibition will feature visual arts in all media including painting, drawing, sculpture, film and photography.
