  Alma de España
     Flamenco Dance Company

A Taste of Spain is what you will get at the 7th annual Flamenco Feria, presented by the Flamenco de la Isla Society as part of the Capital Arts Festival. This is Victoria's favourite Flamenco event. Enthusiastic Flamenco fans have been known to book tickets a year in advance! Since this gala frequently sells-out, reserving your ticket is a good idea.

So what happens at this fantastic Feria? The evening features an exciting silent auction with proceeds going to the development and support of the local Flamenco community. Many local businesses and individuals donate a vast and varied selection of gift certificates, event tickets, original artwork, handcrafted jewellery and other unique treasures to the auction. This is a great place to start your holiday gift shopping or drop some hints for your own wish list!

Once again, the Feria will be held at the beautiful Coast Victoria Harbourside Hotel with delicious tapas served by the Blue Crab Restaurant to truly give you a taste of Spain.

What really makes this event special is the performance of fiery Flamenco music and spirited dancing by the Alma de España Flamenco Dance Company. Everyone loves the swirling skirts and authentic passion of Victoria's finest Flamenco Company. Flamenco music and traditions are shared among family and friends, spanning generations. Special at this year's Feria, the artists of Alma de España's touring show, "Familia Flamenca," will share their talent and energy through the intricate rhythms of Flamenco, helping you find your own Flamenco heartbeat.

To complete your Flamenco experience, a fashion show explaining changes and trends in Flamenco costumes is always fun and educational. Do you know why polka dots are so popular or what the national flower of Spain is? Sit near the front and get a good view of a wide range of Flamenco dresses modeled by the dancers of Alma de España. If you are really enthusiastic, wear your own Flamenco, Spanish or Gypsy costume and take part in the audience costume parade. There are prizes to be won and a fun opportunity to wear all your Flamenco finery.

If this is your first experience with Flamenco, what could be better than an evening of total immersion in this colourful art form. If you are already a Flamenco aficionado, you probably have October 27th set aside for the Feria. Call today and reserve your ticket.

With your support, the Flamenco de la Isla Society offers scholarships and performance opportunities to Flamenco students and professionals on Vancouver Island. Current projects include the development of a Flamenco archive and resource library. Become a Flamenco de la Isla member and learn more about the Society and Alma de España at www.almadeespana.com
