Palm Court Light Orchestra

About:
The Palm Court Orchestra is celebrated for its sensitive and affectionate performance of light orchestral music, well-crafted melody, and exquisite playing. This music creatively bridges the gap between traditionally serious symphony works and the world of Pops. Vancouver Island’s Palm Court Orchestra, founded by conductor Charles Job in 1986, performed its first concert in April 1987 and released its first compact disc in 1997. 2006-2007 will be the Palm Court’s 20th Anniversary season! Offering what may be the most affordable, professional, three concert season in both Victoria and Duncan/Mill Bay, B.C., this 23 to 45-member orchestra attracts audiences from mid-to-southern Vancouver Island, and has a devoted, largely British, light music following abroad.

Theatre Inconnu

About:
2007 marked the Twentieth Anniversary of Theatre Inconnu as a regular contributor to the local Victoria arts community. With only 50 seats, we provide an informal atmosphere, reminiscent of the pocket theatres found throughout Europe.

Theatre Inconnu has the distinction of being Victoria's longest regular producing small alternative theatre company. The troupe has been producing regular seasons of theatre in Victoria since 1987. Standing ovations and sell-out crowds are common occurrences, as the company continues to offer some of the most exciting theatre in town.

Theatre Inconnu's mandate has always been to produce quality plays in an intimate atmosphere; offering audiences a wide selection from the world theatre repertoire. During the past two decades, we have produced over 70 plays, ranging from the ancient Greeks to world premieres of both international and Canadian plays (and everything in between).

Events:
Oct 15th - Nov 1st
Copenhagen by Michael Frayn
1923 Fernwood Road
"Endlessly fascinating" New York Times.
This Tony Award winning play has been receiving rave reviews for the past decade. It examines the mystery surrounding a meeting between physicists Werner Heisenberg and Neils Bohr in 1941 in Copenhagen, where Bohr was in exile. Both had been previously working together in Germany, in the field of nuclear research. Heisenberg's visit with Bohr may have marked a turning point in his willingness to cooperate with Hitler. However, Frayn demonstrates that the perspective of the viewer dictates the interpretation of events.
