WELCOME
On behalf of Capital Arts Festival 2007, we cordially invite you to join us in an October celebration of Canadian arts, culture and heritage throughout the Capital Regional District.
Presented by Heaven-on-Earth Marketing and Image Management Company and in conjunction with a broad range of support from the business community, Capital Arts Festival 2007 is a regional event - administered and produced exclusively as a business organized initiative. Through sponsorships, private arts funding and business equity, CAF 2007 is produced without government funding and without non-profit/charitable involvement at the operational level. We gratefully thank the Capital Regional District for granting permission to publish a current CRD digital map to our event website.
In developing a regional, cultural festival, our goal is to showcase and promote practicing professional artists encompassing all arts disciplines. Capital Arts Festival 2006, a pilot festival and market survey for CAF 2007, determined that the time has come for the business community to come forward in establishing and organizing a professional calibre event that unifies practicing professional artists, strengthens the professional arts community, benefits local businesses, and benefits our citizens and visitors to this region. During the two week pilot festival last year, CAF 2006 showcased eleven venues throughout the CRD, with an estimated attendance of 10,000. Since its inception in January, 2006, our event website has been visited by more than 200,000 visitors.
Exclusive to practicing professional artists who live and work in the CRD, Capital Arts Festival 2007 in October will offer our citizens and visitors to this region a showcase of regional professional events - produced by our member participants - in dance, music, literary, performing and visual arts. Member participants are responsible for their own program development and venue procurement, and all members keep 100% of their ticket proceeds and/or sales revenues.
Practicing professional artists have attained a high level of development and achievement in their chosen fields of endeavour, and are recognized for their professionalism and accomplishments within their communities, by their peers and through their affiliations with professional member groups, societies, associations and numerous independent arts businesses.
This year's festival comprises 17 member participants and represents more than 750 practicing professional artists. CAF 2007 features a diverse array of traditional and non-traditional venues, including: the Canadian Pacific Ballet's production of Victor Hugo's La Esmeralda ~ The Hunchback of Notre Dame, performed at the McPherson Playhouse; to small and intimate dining establishments, such as the Seahorses Café - in a relaxed atmosphere, enjoy fine regional dining and live acoustic guitar preformed by Brad Prevedoros. CAF 2007 welcomes the Eagle Feather - First Nations Artists' Gallery: featured is the artwork of local Coast Salish master carver Doug LaFortune. For information about our venues, event dates, times and locations, click on to our Member Participants Section.
