'Night, Mother by Marsha Norman
May 27th - June 14th
1923 Fernwood Rd
This modern classic won the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 1983.
"Honest, uncompromising, lucid penetrating"
New York Magazine
'Night Mother is a penetrating examination of a mother and daughter relationship. The two characters in this play reach a level of communication that transcends the generational, cultural, and societal restrictions that define family confrontation. While Norman's writing is both deeply moving and unexpectedly humourous, her power lies in her ability to shock us out of the complacency that blinds us to hidden trauma.'Night, Mother is directed by Clayton Jevne and features Geli Bartlett and Karen Lee Pickett

Her trademark amber and sepia pallet evolved after searching for earth friendly mediums. The distinctive medium brings a warm, ethereal, west coast feeling to her works.

Grey Cup returns to British Columbia for Royal BC Museum visit
Saturday August 23rd, 10am - 1pm
In 2005, BC hosted the Grey Cup game. In 2006, the BC Lions won the Grey Cup; in 2007, they had to let it go. This summer, Earl Grey's famed trophy returns to British Columbia - this time at the Royal BC Museum (RBCM).
On Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the 99-year-old trophy will be on display in the museum lobby. Accompanying the Canadian Football League's coveted cup will be Victoria's Dave Cutler, considered by many to be the greatest field goal kicker in the history of the CFL. With six Grey Cup rings to his name, this 16-year Edmonton Eskimo veteran (1969-84) was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1998.
Cutler's talk and Q&A session about his CFL career begins at 11:30 a.m.
"It's going to be an exciting day for sports fans," says RBCM CEO Pauline Rafferty. "Not only do we have a famous football player on the roster, we have two former world champion martial artists coming as well. It's a day to celebrate sports from around the world."
The event kicks off with a half-hour of sports-related storytelling by Puente Theatre (10 - 10:30 a.m.). Later, Victoria's OMAC Martial Wellness presents karate, kobudo and Xtreme martial arts demonstrations, featuring four-time world champion Roxanna Feraru, and two-time world champ Jocelyn Van der Geest (11 a.m. and noon).
This celebration of international sport is the fifth instalment in a monthly series titled From the World to BC, hosted in Clifford Carl Hall at the RBCM. Events are free.
From the World to BC is just one of the special events being staged throughout the year as part of Free Spirit: Stories of You, Me and BC - a Royal BC Museum project designed to celebrate the 150th anniversary of British Columbia as a Crown Colony.
The Royal BC Museum, a provincial crown corporation, collects, preserves and interprets artifacts, specimens and documents that tell the story of British Columbia. As the provincial museum and archives, the RBCM proudly shares that story with the world through its research, collections, exhibitions and public programs.
For more information on the Royal BC Museums latest activities, events and exhibitions, visit www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca or call 1-888-447-7977.

Theatre Inconnu
Oct 15th - Nov 1st
Copenhagen by Michael Frayn
1923 Fernwood Road
"Endlessly fascinating" New York Times.
This Tony Award winning play has been receiving rave reviews for the past decade. It examines the mystery surrounding a meeting between physicists Werner Heisenberg and Neils Bohr in 1941 in Copenhagen, where Bohr was in exile. Both had been previously working together in Germany, in the field of nuclear research. Heisenberg's visit with Bohr may have marked a turning point in his willingness to cooperate with Hitler. However, Frayn demonstrates that the perspective of the viewer dictates the interpretation of events.

Aladdin
Charlie White Theatre
starting December 19th, various dates and times
Peninsula Players presents Aladdin:
Peninsula Players, of the oldest community theatre groups in British Columbia, is for the first time in their history, producing a traditional British Panto ... "Aladdin". Panto is short for pantomime. Not the silent pantomime of Marcel Marceau ... Oh no! Christmas is a noisy, boisterous, humorous, glamorous entertainment that has been the mainstay of the British Christmas Season for over a century.
Why produce a pantomime?
Because it is fun ... both for the cast and audience. It's saucy, it's silly, and it's special. It's a one-of-a-kind FAMILY CHRISTMAS ENTERTAINMENT.
Grandparents and grandchildren and everyone in between can cheer together and jeer together and sing along too if they wish. In "Aladdin", there is a mischievous hero, a beautiful princess, a venomous villain, a scatter-brained washerwoman and all sorts of nuts and bolts and dingbats and dolts on stage (and often in the audiince too).
"Aladdin" is written and directed by a newcomer to Sidney, Dick Mells. Mr. Mells has produced and directed dozens of plays and musicals both in Canada and in his native country, New Zealand, and has written, produced and directed the
Opening Ceremonies for the Canada Games.
Dick is happy to have moved to Sidney and is very enthusiastic about this exciting new venture.
