Cinderella - A Ballet Jörgen Presentation
Saturday, February 6, 8pm
Sunday, February 7, 2pm
Mary Winspear Centre

Get swept away by Ballet Jörgen Canada's exhilarating interpretation of the classic tale, Cinderella. This enchanting ballet set to Prokofiev's traditional score overflows with passion, wit and charm.
This ballet by Bengt Jörgen is an innovative take on the classic fairy tale. Jörgen's choreography takes us through the misfortunes and fortunes of Cinderella and her stepsisters. Cinderella is tormented by her sisters until her life is changed by the appearance of an old woman, a seed and magical fairies. When Cinderella wins the hand of her prince, her stepsisters find their world turned upside down. Framing the action are sets by Glenn Davidson that create a fantastical environment based on the idea of the natural world reclaiming man-made structures. Costume designs by Robert Doyle playfully echo each character's personality.

Double Diamond - The Definitive Neil Diamond Tribute
Friday & Saturday, February 12 & 13, 8pm
Mary Winspear Centre

Returns to the Charlie White Theatre after five consecutive sold out shows!
The Definitive Neil Diamond Tribute - one of Canada's classiest, top Las Vegas style tribute shows has pleased thousands of theatre patrons all over western Canada. Victoria, B.C. tribute artist and show presenter - Bill Zaalberg has successfully recreated the Neil Diamond world tour concert to a "T".
The 3 hr. glitzy "double" feature opens the evening with "TUSK" - The Fleetwood Mac tribute as performed by several members of the 11-piece show. Audiences have commented repeatedly as to the remarkable resemblance in looks and sound to the real Stevie Nicks and Christine McVie.
Immediately following TUSK is part of one DOUBLE DIAMOND with a full brass section, three female backup vocalists and a full, tight rhythm section. One may expect to hear "Coming to America"' "You Don't Bring Me Flowers"' "I'm A Believer, Desiree, Heart Light, Love on the Rocks, September Mom, Crackling Rosie, Sweet Caroline" just to mention a few, like you've never heard it before. Audiences have been rubbing their eyes and checking their ears in total disbelief as to the closeness and sizzle that this group puts into each and every performance.
After a 20 minute intermission the DOUBLE DIAMOND group picks up the pace with some of the best, hit songs Neil Diamond has ever written and recorded but with a unique style of their own. Upon completion, several standing ovations and encores are not uncommon.
The Double Diamond group loves to bring this exciting show to city and community theatres where people are unable to attend the larger city arena productions. Definitely a must see for all Neil Diamond and Fleetwood Mac fans.

Lester Quitzau Trio
Friday, March 26, 8pm
Mary Winspear Centre

The most exciting thing about a Lester Quitzau performance lies not so much in being blown away at the wealth of sources he draws from at will as it does in marveling at how skillfully he transcends those sources and transforms them into something entirely new and electrifying. As this year unfolds, fans can look forward to both recorded and live opportunities for enjoying the newest facets of his ever-evolving musical identity.
On his new CD, "The Same Light"' the Juno Award-winner unveils sensitive, finely-crafted songs showcasing his writing skills, soul-drenched blues sure to satisfy his longest-standing fans, and three instrumental pieces that transcend limiting tags like "jazz" or "fold" or "roots". It closes with a powerful treatment of Pete Seeger's "To My Old Brown Earth", blending many of the CD's musical flavours into a heartfelt statement of our shared responsibility toward the "fragile, beautiful planet" we occupy together.
Throughout the CD he displays the virtuosity as a guitarist and vocalist that have won him growing critical acclaim and admiration over the past 20 years, whether as a solo performer, a member of the award-winning group Tri-Continental, collaborator with international recording artist Mae Moore, or the Lester Quitzau Trio.
Joining Lester (guitars, vocals, steel pan drum) will be the acclaimed producer/multi-instrumentalist Joby Baker (Bass & vocals), and the much in demand, Billy Hicks (Drums/percussion and vocals). The music of this masterful trio is magic and not to be missed ...

"From the Sun Down"
April 1 - April 30
Sooke Harbour House Art Gallery

Sooke Harbour House Art Gallery will be featuring Artists Jill Winstanley & Aurafidelite Arindam.
There is an open reception on Sunday, April 4, 2010 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm with artists in attendance. Admission is free & refreshments available.
Jill Winstanley, a self-taught oil painter, resides in Sooke, BC, Canada. Being born and raised on Vancouver Island has definitely inspired her creativity and her appreciation of nature on the West Coast. She has been working as a full time artist from her home studio since 2003. "As long as nature keeps springing forth with such vibrant beauty, I will never have a lack of inspiration. It is not my intent to 'make a statement' with my art. I paint what I see and it is the feeling from the moment that I try to transfer to the canvas. I am truly in awe every day at the delicate balance between the plants and various insects that frequent my gardens. And the force of nature that is always prominent on the coast fixes me with its beauty. If I can capture a wee bit of that activity on canvas, I feel I have achieved my goal."
Aurafidélité Arindam was born and raised in the province of Ontario. Her interest in art began at an early age when she was surrounded by her very talented artistic family. She later moved to Montreal for her Master's studies at McGill University. Academically accomplished, she worked for several years in the private and public sector. In 1991, she moved with her husband to James Bay in Victoria, British Columbia. For several years, they worked for a UNESCO-sponsored project whose aim was to bring human unity and peace between various nations of the world.

IVORY: Chinese and Japanese Carved Masterpieces
April 2 - July 25
Art Gallery of Greater Victoria

In China and Japan, the elephant is the symbol of strength, sagacity and prudence. To the Chinese, who were probably the first people to carve it, ivory was the most desirable material next to jade. Ivory is appreciated for its strength, sensual appeal, warm tones, and patina it gains with age. These qualities make it ideal for extremely fine carving. Japan adopted ivory carving much later but carried it to new heights of perfection particularly in the 19thand early 20th centuries. The major artistic use for ivory in Japan was for small netsuke or toggles/fasteners on clothing. By the late 1860's, clothing styles changed and traditional netsuke carvers found new forms of ivory carving including larger freestanding "okimono" carvings. The AGGV has one of the largest and most impressive collections of Chinese ivory carvings in the world and a fairly good collection of Japanese ivory carvings. More than one hundred specimens will be on display.

The Marc Atkinson Trio
Friday, April 23, 8pm
Mary Winspear Centre

Marc Atkinson is one of Canada's finest JUNO-nominated, Western Canadian award-winning musicians. He is the leader and composer of the internationally renowned Marc Atkinson Trio (and co-founder, composer and performer in the acclaimed, The Bills). The music of this virtuosic group is melodically captivating, sensually charged and ferociously, technically awe-inspiring. Embracing a lifetime of musical influences, Marc and the Trio have just released their fourth CD, The Marc Atkinson Trio IV, praised as the finest yet. The compositions on this CD are punchy, driving and rhythmically inventive. The Trio, formed in 2000, has toured North America, England and Europe and has received standing ovations everywhere they perform from the Montreal Jazz Festival to the Vancouver International Folk Festival to DjangoFest Northwest.
Marc Atkinson, a multi-instrumentalist/composer/arranger/producer, is one of Canada's most talented musicians. His catchy compositions, found on the self-titled CDs I, II, III and now IV take guitar beyond the usual repertoire and sound. The tunes have a fiery but elegant guitar style, infused with a catchy blend of influences. All this while still maintaining the laidback humour and casual 'good time feel' of Canada's West Coast. Atkinson's picking has been described as flawless, surprise-filled, sizzling and supremely melodic. His music is original, complex and challenging in its conception and delivery but remains accessible and absorbing. The music of the Marc Atkinson Trio good-naturedly welcomes all listeners aboard for an intriguing, exhilarating and unforgettable ride.
Marc Atkinson is backed by Joey Smith on bass and Chris Frye on rhythm guitar on the latest CD, MAT IV.

This well known Woody Allen Broadway-hit play concerns a shy film critic, Allan Felix, who has trouble with women. He is consumed by movies, particularly his favourite film of all time, Casablanca, and has just been through a messy divorce. Unable to deal with this emotional turmoil, Allan seeks solace in the movies he loves, imagining Humphrey Bogart has dropped by his apartment to offer him advice on dealing with the ladies ("Dames are simple. I never met one that didn't understand a slap in the mouth or a slug from a forty-five"). Helping Allan meet new women are his good friends Dick and Linda Christie. They fix him up with a succession of dates, all of which end disastrously because of Allan's nervousness and insecurity. Finally, Allan realizes that he has been spending more time with Linda than anyone else and he is becoming attracted to her -- she's the only woman he truly feels comfortable around. Linda proves unexpectedly receptive to Allan's advances, since Dick's workaholic ways leave Linda neglected and ignored. However, as she is married to Dick, their relationship is ultimately doomed, just as it was for Rick (Bogart) and Ilsa in Casablanca.

26th Annual Fired-Up! Contemporary Works in Clay Show, May 2010
Friday night Opening, May 28, 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Saturday, May 29, 10am - 4pm
Sunday, May 30, 10am - 4pm
Metchosin Hall

The last weekend in May, the members of Fired-Up! Contemporary Works in Clay will hold their annual exhibition and sale on Vancouver Island in Metchosin. The first Fired-Up! Pottery show took place in 1984, and the vision was to show the public the many diverse ways of working with clay by demonstration and exhibition. Potters choose to live a separate life; a life tied to the earth making things from the ground up; playing with the elements. People who value human touch, intimate gestures and creative intention will find the Fired Up Show a thrilling experience.
Along with the yearly show in Metchosin, the Fired-Up group has shown together across Canada and the US. Last year, Fired-Up was honored to be invited to the Canadian Clay and Glass Museum, in Waterloo, Ontario, to exhibit their work in a 25th Anniversary Show titled, “What the Rains Bring.” Following the show at CCGG, the group attended a grand opening of their exhibition at Jonathon Bancroft- Snell Gallery, in London, Ontario, the largest contemporary Ceramics gallery in Canada.
The core members that will be exhibiting this year include Pat Webber, Susan Delatour LePoidevin, Gordon Hutchens, Kinichi Shigeno, Alan Burgess, Cathi Jefferson, Gary Merkel, Meira Mathison, and Meg Burgess. In addition, Fired-Up is very excited to have invited 5 guests, Tobias Tomlinson, Elaine Brewer White, Sue Hara, Judy Weeden, and Sarah Lawless. These five potters bring together an array of talent ranging from large figurative sculptures, mixed media wall pieces and decorative functional pottery.
The Theme Gallery is the first thing that visitors to the show see as they enter. Each potter's interpretation of the yearly theme provides a cerebral yet sensual experience for the viewer and a peek into each potter's mind. This year's theme, Bellies, Bodies, Feet and Necks promises to explore the anatomy of a pot, and the connection that exists between pottery and the human or animal form.

June 1 - 30
Lisa Riehl and Desiree Bond
Sooke Harbour House

Two Victoria-area artists, Lisa Riehl and Desiree Bond, will be the feature artists at the Sooke Harbour House for the month of June 2010. The show is entitled "The West Coast" and is the perfect way to start the summer! Come out to visit the Sooke Harbour House in the town of Sooke, only a 45 minute drive from downtown Victoria. The Sooke Harbour House is a luxury boutique hotel on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, and features spa, fine dining, and of course an amazing selection of art throughout the hotel. It's West Coast art in a stunning West Coast setting...
Opening reception featuring Lisa Riehl & Desiree Bond is on Sunday, June 6, 2010 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Refreshments are available.
Lisa Riehl lives in Sooke and paints impressionistic west coast landscapes. Her bold and colorful acrylic paintings of trees, mountains and beaches are inspired by her absolute love of nature and the fact that she lives in such a gorgeous part of the world. She is always spending time outside: hiking, surfing, and going on walks - "with her dog. Once home in her studio, Lisa paints the inspiring scenes around her, adding a bit more color and boldness that make up her own unique style.
Desiree Bond lives in Victoria and has spent much of the last two years painting en plein air (outdoors). She often paints with the Victoria-based group "Al Frescoes", and many of her studio pieces are derived from that outdoor work. Desiree's recent work is a combination of conté line drawing and traditional acrylic painting on canvas.

July Artist
Christine Reimer
Sooke Harbour House

Christine Reimer has painted professionally for nearly thirty years. Her Canadian landscape interpretations are characterized by use of strong vibrant colors. Her original acrylic on canvas paintings are found in corporate and private collections across North America and abroad.
In 2008, Christine's studio was totally rebuilt and expanded. In this new workspace she created this series of work, inspired in part by the profusion of flowers in gardens surrounding the studio.
This exhibition contains larger abstract floral work and smaller works inspired by a variety of subjects. While these are a departure from her well known landscapes, all of these floral and abstract works continue to demonstrate Christine's bold palette and unique color sense.
"This series has allowed me to reflect upon the joyful colors in striking floral arrangements and in my garden. As well, I have alternated between small and large scale, and pushed some new boundaries by incorporating collage elements I hope you will have as much fun with these as I had in creating them"
Christine Reimer’s work will be featured until July 31, 2010. Everyone is welcome! We look forward to seeing you there.

Workshop Times: 9:30am - 3:30pm
Denman Island Arts Centre

Various ways to play around with the amazing possibilities of collage. We'll loosen up with a number of approaches and exercises to stretch that old familiar cut-and-paste. More about process than product, we may draw or paint into collages, then overlay other collage material.
Dorothy Field has worked with weaving, handmade paper, artist's books, and dry-point prints, but collage has always been bedrock she returns to. Her work has been shown all over Canada and the US. She is the author of numerous books. The latest is a volume of poetry Wearing My People Like a Shawl (Sono Nis).

"Figurative Art with Lisa Hebden"
September 1st - 30th, open from 9am to 9pm daily

Lisa Hebden is a figurative oil painter working in Victoria, BC. She works from drawings, photographs, and memory to make paintings that have a sense of otherworldliness to them. Victoria figurative painter Lisa Hebden is a 2003 recipient of a Painting on the Edge Award from the Federation of Canadian Artists. Lisa holds two degrees, in Fine Arts & Graphic Design, from Nova Scotia College of Art & Design. Her work has been featured in International Artist Magazine, Applied Arts Magazine, Art Avenue, Ceramics Art & Perception, The Vancouver Sun, The Halifax Herald and the Claremont Review. Annual House Tour
September 12, 11am - 4:30pm
Tour around the Saanich Peninsula

Since the House Tour began in 1953, sell-out crowds have been inspired by distinctive homes and gardens each year. Setting this tour apart from others are the local artists on-site at each house producing an original artwork. Past artists have included Robert Amos, Ted Harrison, and Tony Hunt Jr., to name a few. As well, each home will feature flower arrangements by the Victoria Flower Arrangers Guild.
The House Tour is the single most important annual fundraiser produced by the Associates of the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. The funds raised support the development of education and exhibition programming at the Gallery.
This year experience "A Day on the Peninsula" with a tour of 7 beautiful homes on the Saanich Peninsula. These homes were designed and built to take advantage of panoramic ocean and countryside views. This is island living at its most spectacular: modern homes in wonderful settings, created to suit their owners' life styles.
Please note that since most of these homes are set back from the road, the tour does involve some walking and stair climbing and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility. Children under 12 are not permitted on the Tour.
Tickets: $35.00

S.L.A.M.! Placemaking
Shawnigan Lake Arts and Multicultural Placemaking Celebration
September 18th, 2 - 6pm
Shawnigan Lake Village
Wilmot Avenue

Free and everyone is welcome to come out!
Join us for entertainment, activites, community, creativity!
What is home? On September 18, 2010, a vibrant new community event called the Shawnigan Lake Arts and Multicultural (SLAM) Placemaking Celebration, will feature what Shawnigan Lake is about and what it is becoming.
Organizer and local business woman Lynn Weaver shares, "SLAM placemaking is a fun and interactive way for the community to be creatively inspired by the arts and multiculturalism. We aim to be truly welcoming of our community's existing diversity, as well as for new-comers, and to offer opportunities to explore our community's visions of home."
A unique feature of SLAM Placemaking is the creation of a new "Community Corner" space, which will change the face of the village.
"At community organizing meetings, people expressed a desire to create an inclusive public community space, which would provide opportunities for social encounters and deeper immersion in creation of the life of the Village." enthused Weaver.
A community cob (natural building method) bench will be built with the guidance of experienced cob enthusiasts from OUR Ecovillage. The bench site will be adorned with art from community members, and will be a legacy of the event.
The afternoon event will feature a number of fun activities and events for all ages including: Malaika Marimba, Wontanara Drum and Dance, face painting, children's crafts, music, hoola hooping, community service organizations, interactive dance demos, tea tent and refreshment offerings.
S.L.A.M. Placemaking is a "What is Home" project developed by the Cowichan Intercultural Society. It is one of the 11 exciting and contemplative projects being organized in the Cowichan Region. SLAM Placemaking is a partnership with Welcome BC, community members, local artists, MoonDance Dynamic Arts School, businesses, and the Cowichan Intercultural Society.

Return of the Samurai
August 6 - November 14
Art Gallery of Greater Victoria

Since its last exhibition on samurai in 2003, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria has received by donation four significant samurai suits of armour, helmets and a number of other samurai related paraphernalia. This exhibition will showcase these newly acquired works of art.
The samurai of old Japan were amongst the world's greatest and most courageous warriors as well as being amongst the most cultured. The samurai followed a strict cope of behaviour, which came to be known as Bushido or the way of the warrior. The samurai's life was directed by righteousness. He must not disgrace his status and must live up to the honour and specific obligations, which were expected of him. The samurai had a tremendous sense of moral obligation or duty and loyalty to his lord, to his family and to society. Martial bravery was very important to the samurai. He glorified in his military skills and his honour as being a warrior and a descendant of warriors.
The exhibition will include about numerous new prints illustrating the life and times of samurai including prints of the famous story of the 47 Ronin (one of Japan's greatest samurai tragedies). Other items include scroll paintings of samurai and paintings made by samurai and boy's day festival samurai items. The highlight of the exhibition will be the newly acquired samurai suits of amour, a major new sword and a painting attributed to the greatest samurai general of all, Toyotomi Hideyoshi (1536-98).

Sooke Harbour House October Featured Artists
October 1 - November 30
Open reception on Sunday, October 3, 1pm - 4pm - Artists in Attendance!

Maria Kaltio local artist from Sooke, B.C.
My mom started quilting when I was a teenager and made quilts for everyone..... except me. I hounded her to make me one for years until finally on my 25th birthday she presented me with a gift..... a second hand Phaff sewing machine (that I still use today) and suggested that I should make my own. That gift was a passion for quilting and textile arts, and something that she and I now share. I take classes and workshops as often as I can and still feel like a beginner (after 12 years of practice) when in the company of more experienced quilters. My designs are often inspired by the fabrics I choose which tend to have an Asian influence, or a strong graphic feel. I love to create my own designs and finish with free motion machine quilting.
Patrice Plank local artist from Victoria, B.C.
Scratch art is a unique art form using scratchboard. Scratchboard is a wooden panel coated with a layer of white clay and then sprayed with a layer of black India ink. It was developed for the professional scratch artist.
The original design is lightly scratched into the black ink surface using very delicate tools; concentrating on lights and darks until the desired effect is achieved. Each image is literally thousands of scratches allowing for precise detail and control of lines, enabling the artist to bring the piece to life. The picture can then be painted with acrylics or watercolors etc, or left as a black and white.

Live @ Lunch
November 3rd, Noon to 1pm
Newcombe Conference Hall, Royal BC Museum

Free admission
Biscuits, Bombs and "The Ubiquitous Brisco"
Discovery in the Tunnels of WWI France
Sue Stackhouse, Marketing Coordinator Royal BC Museum
It began with 12 words found in an old book in the basement. Those words led to France, to the war graves of my husband's great-uncles, and to the realization that we were (almost certainly) their first post-war visitors. This presentation is not a complete "how-to" on WWI war graves research, but an inspirational guide to finding, visiting and honouring those that didn't come home.
Sue Stackhouse's hobby is family history research. She tells the fascinating story of Captain Richard Brown Brisco, M.C. while sharing research, travel tips and photos from self-guided trips to France and England.

Tidemark Art Gallery
Two Woman Show with Jill Paris Rody and Carole Goodwin
November 10th - 30th
1220 Shoppers Row (tuesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm)

A special OPENING, where you can meet the artists, will be held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 14th, from 1 - 4pm.
Jill Paris Rody
Inspired by nature, Jill has a heart for the quiet and peaceful pastoral scenes we often take for granted and are, sadly, disappearing. Over the last three years she has devoted very serious studio time to her art in hopes of sharing her vision of the beautiful Pacific Northwest with others. Color, Texture, and Line, and their subtle nuances intrigue her, and she is a constant student of those who are forging a pathway in emotional landscape painting.
"It is impossible for me to work in one medium alone, as each new scene calls for its own expression: Watercolor, Acrylic, Pastel, Drawing...these mediums beg to be explored. There is no down time for the eye of an artist. Each new direction in sight reveals yet another image to be preserved."
Carole Goodwin
Carole's boldly colored floral and landscape paintings reflect not only just her love of nature, but also her belief in our abiding oneness with all things. Enjoying its many challenges and its clear transparency, watercolor medium has long been a favored choice. In recent years her interests have turned toward experimental art. Using a mixed media of collage, gels, gold leaf and acrylics a new layer of expression has emerged. She is constantly looking for new ways to incorporate textures into her work; always allowing the glow of the gold leaf to add interest.

7th Annual Poetry Gabriola Festival
November 11 - 14
Four days, 24 artists, 12 events, at the Dragon's Lodge

It's Poetry Gabriola Festival time, and 2010 has been full of surprises - including a big move to a new venue. This year all events will be held at the elegant Dragon's Lodge, at the south end of Gabriola. We find this beautiful oceanfront location hugely inspiring, and think our fans will too.
To get the show rolling, we are celebrating Opening Night with the poetry of folk music. Canada Sings: Islanders Sing Songs of The Land is a rare concert by Pender Island luminary Mae Moore, and Gabriola's Bob Bossin.
The festival weekend we will showcase the results of a two-year project called Canada Speaks: New Literary Performance Works by 12 Canadian Artists. Audiences will have the opportunity to see 12 of Canada's top literary performers in action as they premiere brand new pieces commissioned by Poetry Gabriola.
From a project with a national profile to some of the smallest spaces on the island, Knock-Knock, Who's There? is a new, free, multi-artist, site-specific installation of teeny, tiny performances that will occur in the 11 cabins scattered around the grounds of the Dragon's Lodge. Quite possibly the most complex knock-knock joke ever, this installation of poets, musicians, and performance artists proves over and over that good things come in tiny little cabin-shaped packages.
The festival also features readings, workshops, school shows, discussions, a Performance Art Salon, and the Mingle! Wine Bar. For a full schedule and complete artist information go to www.poetrygabriola.com.

Thursday Night Museum Café: New Species
Thursday, November 18, 7- 9pm, doors open at 6:30pm
Biodiversity Lounge at the Royal BC Museum, 675 Belleville Street

Imagine getting to name a new species. Scientists and researchers in the Royal BC Museum's Natural History Department have described many new species and will be busy naming new species for many, many years to come. How do they do it? What are they working on? And what has changed over the years?
Speakers
Dr. Rob Cannings
Rob Cannings, Curator of Entomology at the Royal BC Museum has been crazy about insects since he was a child. Although he's studied many kinds of insects, his favourites are dragonflies and robber flies, and he has written several books on them. Before coming to the RBCM in 1980, Rob was a biologist in BC Parks and a lecturer and museum curator at the University of BC.
Dr. Robb Bennett
Robb Bennett is a Research Associate at the Royal BC Museum working on spider taxonomy and diversity projects. He has studied spiders for over 30 years and has published a wide variety of scientific papers and other articles on spider taxonomy and natural history. As well, he is Editor-in-Chief of The Canadian Entomologist, a major international publication for entomological research.
Dr. Melissa Frey
Melissa joined the Royal BC Museum in August, and serves as the Curator of Invertebrates. She earned a PhD from the University of California Davis, studying tropical marine snails. Since moving to BC she has become increasingly interested in the remarkable diversity that the province has to offer, including both native and non-native species.

Open Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursdays from September 3 to December 30, 9am - 3pm
Congregation Emanu-El

This year the text is a compendium of rabbinical teaching, folk traditions, Biblical and Talmudic text on the topic of Death and Remembrance. The Gala Opening will feature the works of the artists and the powerful "Yizkor Book" created from their work. Both the art work and the book will be on sale that evening and until December. At the Gala, the artists will briefly talk about their work and the poets will read their poems. Dr. Andrew Thompson and the 1977-78 West Coast Oil Ports Inquiry
Dr. Lorne Hammond, Curator of History, Royal BC Museum
Join Dr. Lorne Hammond in an illustrated public talk on the history of energy in British Columbia, focusing on an unusual and historic public discussion that took place in British Columbia in 1977-78 over future oil ports, tankers and fisheries. Faced with the increased Alaskan tanker traffic down the West Coast of BC several options were on the table, including an oil port at Port Angeles, an Alaskan highway pipeline, a route through Skagway or an oil port at Kitimat.

City of Gardens Chorus presents
A Cappella Christmas - A Pantomime
Sunday, December 12, at 2:00 and 7:00
Charlie White Theatre, Sidney

Never been to a pantomime? Here's your chance to enjoy a fun and interactive show. The award-winning City of Gardens Chorus will weave lots of songs and some trickery throughout a story starring Angelica Winters (with a name like that you know she just loves Christmas!) and her mean, nasty boss lady, Malice Devlyn. A couple of geeky buffoons are thrown into the mix for some added slapstick.
Experience this Chorus' talents first-hand. In June they performed at a private Canadian Naval Centennial event in Victoria and had former Governor General Michaelle Jean on her feet and clapping! In July they earned third place at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod during a two-week performance tour of England and Wales!
We are honoured to donate a portion of show proceeds to The Cridge Centre for the Family.
